After Action Report:
APL’s Parsons Auditorium once again filled with systems engineers and their guests on June 15th, as Dr. Craig Schlenoff and Dr. William S. Harrison from NIST provided an overview of the robotics program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is developing and deploying advances in measurement science to improve robotic system performance, collaboration, and agility in assembly-centric manufacturing applications. The presenters placed specific emphasis will be the Agility Performance of Robotic Systems project. This project is developing robot agility performance metrics and test methods that will enable manufacturers to easily and rapidly reconfigure and re-task robotic systems. Dr. Harrison described the Agile Robotics for Industrial Automation Competition, which is a key strategy in realizing this vision.
