The INCOSE Chesapeake Chapter System Engineer of the Year (SEY) is awarded to those candidates that excel in three areas during the award period:

Project impact: Major contributions to successful execution of complex and difficult projects such as:

  • Led a Systems Engineering team on a large system development program; or
  • Participated on a system engineering team working on a significant project; or
  • Contributed to Systems Engineering process improvement; or
  • Taught Systems Engineering as a faculty member of an accredited university for an academic quarter or equivalent; or
  • Taught a Systems Engineering short course or module in a curriculum; or
  • Supervised a graduate student systems engineering thesis or dissertation.

Outreach: Help others to enhance their system engineering skills through leadership, instruction, or publication such as:

  • Authored a technical paper relating to systems engineering published in a recognized journal or magazine; or
  • Authored a technical paper relating to systems engineering presented it at a refereed conference, paper was published in the conference proceedings; or
  • Presented a technical brief relating to systems engineering at a conference or other meaningful venue

Professional Service: Help build and grow professional and standards organizations both inside and outside one’s company by giving service to INCOSE such as:

  • Served as an officer on an INCOSE Chapter’s Board of Directors for a full term; or
  • Served on the INCOSE Central Organization for a full term; or
  • Contributed in a substantial way to the conduct of chapter meetings; or
    Organized and conducted a seminar or mini conference (an event with speakers, panels, tutorials, or exhibits); or
  •  Participated as an organizer in the INCOSE International Workshop or the INCOSE International Symposium.
