Networking, Dinner and Lecture Series

Location: Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory

Topic: Lean Startup and Agile for Initial Project Planning

Description: The author will review how best practices from The Lean Startup and Agile Scrum Product Backlog Item (PBI) development have been used together to facilitate two teams of Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, and Project/Program Managers to collaboratively develop Initial Work Items for a Research System Improvement and an innovative Micro-Grid (uGrid) Reference Model (RM) for Cuyahoga County, OH.

Speaker:  Michael E. (Mike) Pafford

Mike Pafford, a 20-year INCOSE member, is a former US Air Force Multiple Language Analyst, US Navy Cryptologic Officer, and Intelligence Systems Lead Engineer. He retired from the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory in 2016 as a C4ISR Project Manager, and is currently an Instructor in Software Systems Engineering in the JHU Whiting School of Engineering MS in Systems Engineering curriculum. Mike is Co-Chairman of the INCOSE Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM) and System and Software Interface (SaSI) Working Groups. Starting in December 2015 Mike has also facilitated multiple educational workshops on, “Lean Startup Method (LSM) and Agile Scrum PBI Development for Initial Project Planning”. The objective of these workshops is to enable any system solution project to, “Get It Right, Right From the Start”.
