We SUPPORT STEM Growth in our Community
On an annual basis members support local middle and high school students science fairs. Chesapeake Chapter has formed a committee to judge science fairs for Anne Arundel County and Baltimore Schools.
The Anne Arundel County Public School Regional Engineering Expo has over 350 student participants. The Baltimore Science Fair is a competition of the winners from schools in Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford and Howard Counties and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (including the Ingenuity Project) in Baltimore City. Entrants per high school is fifteen (15) and middle school is six (6), which generally results in over 300 students.
Student projects are evaluated and those with the best representation of STEM ideas with a systems engineering approach are generally ranked highest in the selection process. Monetary awards are presented to students based on the established criteria.
Generally, three students are chosen as a first, second and third place winners and on occasion there may be an honorable mention at the discretion of the judges.
These two Science Fairs are typically held in May and the STEM - Science Fair Committee is always looking for volunteers. So, if you are interested in supporting, please let us know. This is a great way to serve our community and to support our youth.
