2022-10-16: WMA & CC TopGolf event

Date: Sunday, October 16, 2022

Attendees: Rosemary Kioko, William Jemison, Evan Kwisnek, Kaz, Dave Flanigan, Clinton Hilliard, Dan O'Neil, and Jeffrey Banks

This October, two of the largest local INCOSE area chapters came together to hold a joint social event at the Top Golf venue in Germantown Maryland. Members from both the Chesapeake Chapter and the Washington Metro Area Chapter spent a sunny autumn afternoon participating in friendly golf-themed competitions while also getting to know each another. The venue provided for a party room adjacent to six reserved second floor game bays overlooking the playing field. The group having access to an endless fajitas and nachos bar ensured enough fuel for the evening and that everyone who attended left satiated. While most attendees were novices at playing golf, there was no lacking in hesitancy with picking up a club and giving it a go. Everyone enjoyed hitting golf balls, playing games, talking, connecting, and eating… lots of eating.

The recent INCOSE golf outing at TopGolf was Top Notch. I haven’t swung a club in over 20 yrs – but I did feel comfortable with the group that I was swinging with that day. My score, riddled with zeros, reflects the fact that someone can still have a good time if they realize that no one was judging my engineering skills based on my golf score. We did have the Chairman’s Suite for our food and gathering venue, and we were treated nicely by the staff, even though most of us were NOT sporting golf gloves to show our expertise at the sport. We occupied 3 pods and some of the more serious actually played one or two of the games using the electronic score keeping. I never did find out who won – but there was someone being carried off in chair so his feet wouldn’t touch the ground like King Tiger Woods.
The weather was ideal – and even if not so, one is under a cantilevered roof so no rain or snow would disturb one’s game. The Chairman’s Suite sported a bar and 2 wide screen TVs and our lunch  - Fajitas with delicious cookies for dessert. Yum!

This was a very nice event and I am looking forward to this being a yearly event as well. Met some new people that day – always great to meet other SEs sporting the trade. As you can see from the photo, I did manage to escape with a couple of golf hats and a CC coffee mug. Fore!
