Abstract:

A good systems engineer knows that requirements should be solution-neutral. Sometimes, neutrality changes. NASA used to require that all astronauts be experienced military pilots no taller than 5’11”. Now, military experience (with its associated race and sex limits), height, and other requirements have changed. The desire for all astronauts to be capable of dealing with emergency situations is the same, but new ways exist to be capable and to measure that capability.

Courtney Wright, CSEP, INCOSE SE Certifications Program Manager

The INCOSE Certification Program offers another case study of how early requirements were actually solution-specific. Updating those requirements requires a deep look at their initial purpose and questioning how efficiently to confirm that someone will be an effective systems engineer. This presentation will be of interest to those who are familiar with the INCOSE Certification Program as well as those who are not.

Speaker:

Courtney Wright is a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) and the Program Manager for INCOSE’s Certification Program.
